JOB CHARNOCK WAS NOT THE FOUNDER OF KOLKATA
True History Revealed
Kolkata had a civilization as old as 2nd Century B.C. and perhaps much older. Don’t get amazed… It’s according to the latest findings by the Archaeological Survey of India.
Moreover The Kolkata High Court has rejected the name of Job Charnock as the city’s founder and has clearly stated that regarding Charnock as the founder was erroneous and baseless. Kolkata remained an important place both commercially and religiously much before the arrival of Charnock. The strategic location and well developed society besides unmatched administration by the Zamindars of the Sabarna Roy Choudhury family urged Charnock to come to Kolkata and prove his own ability before the East India Company and defeat the Portuguese and Armenians who were living there and doing prosperous business in cotton yarn.
Another reason for Charnock to come to Kolkata was for taking shelter from the Moghul army because he was engaged in frequent mischief regarding women and dishonouring the Indians. It is also said that he was infected with deadly sexual disease which led to his death on Jan 10th, 1693. Analyzing the character of Charnock and his deeds in India certainly highlights an evil person who was not only rude and cunning but also characterless and highly mischievous. He was not a hero but a villain in the history of Kolkata.
Therefore please keep it in your mind that Kolkata is not a British creation and Job Charnock is not its founder.
